Letting Go of Expectations and Embracing Truth

There was a time when I lived my life based on what I thought I should be doing.
I made decisions that looked right on the outside — choices that aligned with what others expected of me — but they didn’t necessarily feel right on the inside. I was not living in alignment. I was constantly trying to be the version of myself that would make others comfortable, that would keep the peace, that would seem “together.”

But something shifts when you begin to live in alignment. When you stop forcing yourself into boxes that no longer fit and instead begin to explore what genuinely makes you feel alive. When you begin focusing on emotional freedom, self trust and connection.

Living in alignment doesn’t happen all at once. It starts quietly — often with discomfort. It might be a sense of restlessness, a feeling that something isn’t quite right, or that you’re constantly performing instead of simply being. That discomfort is often the invitation — a nudge toward something more real, more you. It is part of your healing journey, beginning with finding balance, and resulting in authentic living.

For me, alignment began when I started letting go of “shoulds” and began asking myself, “What feels true?”
The more I honoured that truth, the more connected and free I began to feel.

What Living in Alignment Looks Like

Living in alignment isn’t about chasing perfection or always knowing what to do. It’s about listening inward and making choices that resonate deeply with who you are, even when they don’t make sense to others.

It might look like:

✅ Choosing relationships that nurture and uplift you, rather than ones that drain your energy.

✅ Setting boundaries that protect your time, space, and emotional wellbeing.

✅ Engaging in work that feels meaningful — where your skills and your heart are both valued.

✅ Giving yourself permission to evolve, to outgrow old versions of yourself, and to start again when needed.

✅ An ongoing commitment to personal growth and healing.

For me, this journey has been about rebuilding trust with myself — learning to quiet the noise of external validation and instead, to tune into my own inner compass. And to be honest, there have been many iterations, along the way. Each version inching me closer and closer.

There’s a grounded confidence that comes from alignment. You may still face challenges, but you move through them differently. There’s less striving and more flow, less forcing and more allowing. You begin to see that alignment isn’t a destination — it’s a daily practice of checking in, listening, and adjusting with compassion.

How Healing Led to Freedom

My healing journey has allowed me the freedom to connect with myself and others on a deeper level. Healing, I’ve learned, isn’t a straight line — it’s a spiral. You revisit old wounds from new levels of awareness. You grow, soften, and expand as you learn to meet yourself with more understanding.

There are parts of healing that happen within safe relationships and community — being witnessed, held, and validated is incredibly powerful. But at its core, healing is a relationship with yourself. It’s learning to listen to your body, to your emotions, to that quiet inner knowing that says, This matters.

Freedom comes when we allow ourselves to be fully seen — by ourselves first, and then by others who are capable of meeting us there. It’s not about never struggling again; it’s about no longer abandoning yourself in the process.

When we begin to live in alignment, healing and freedom become intertwined. Healing opens the door to self-trust, and self-trust gives us the courage to live freely — to show up as our authentic selves, without apology.

Questions to Reflect On

If you’re feeling disconnected, stuck, or unsure of your next step, gentle reflection can be a powerful starting point. Try asking yourself:

  • Am I living in alignment with my values and desires?
  • Do I feel free to be my true self in my relationships?
  • Am I surrounding myself with people and experiences that uplift and energize me?
  • Where am I still trying to meet expectations that no longer serve me?

There are no right or wrong answers — only information to guide you toward what feels most aligned.

If the answers reveal spaces where you’re not fully honouring yourself, see that as an opportunity, not a failure. Each awareness is a doorway to change.
